Experience a cultural-historical guided tour through the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek's collection of 34 animal sculptures created by French artist Antoine-Louis Barye (1795-1875). In the exhibition "The Animals' Procession," these works are presented in a new light, treating animals as independent artistic subjects rather than as symbols or background figures.
During the guided tour, we explore the 19th century's growing fascination with animal life and its connection to contemporary scientific advances, Paris's zoological gardens, the development of industrialized agriculture, and France's colonial expansion. Barye and the so-called "animaliers" presented animals as characterful individuals with their own expressive power.
Practical information: The tour is free with paid museum admission. Tickets are collected on the day at the ticket desk—advance booking is not possible. Groups of more than five people cannot receive group tour tickets but may book a private guided tour.
