Since their formation in Tokyo in the 1990s, the Japanese duo Yasuko Onuki and Ichiro Agata have created their own distinct sonic universe. Their music blends noise, hardcore, grindcore and punk with pop, electronics and experimental art music – an expression that can only be described as unmistakably Melt-Banana. Over the decades, they have built an almost legendary status among audiences and musicians worldwide, confirmed through collaborations with artists such as John Zorn, Mike Patton, Melvins, Wire and Lou Reed.
Live, Melt-Banana transforms into an explosive force. Agata's guitar work scatters sound fragments in all directions, while Yako's distinctive voice moves between piercing outbursts, rhythmic patterns and surprising melodic passages – backed by a massive and precise rhythm section. Their latest album '3+5' from 2024 continues the band's uncompromising evolution: still aggressive, still curious and still seeking new paths. This concert is not merely a performance, but an intense demonstration of rock music's endless possibilities.
