Experience Afro-Caribbean avant-garde music with decolonial power and stunning beauty from GRAMMY-nominated artist Lido Pimienta. Born in Barranquilla on Colombia's Caribbean coast, she has established herself as one of today's most visionary musicians – a voice that sharply reconsiders identity, belonging and cultural heritage.
With over 15 years on stage under her belt, Pimienta creates a wholly unique artistic practice. Her breakthrough came with the album "La Papessa" (2017), which won the prestigious Polaris Music Prize, followed by the critically acclaimed "Miss Colombia" (2020). In 2020, she also composed the work Lux Aeterna for New York City Ballet – as the first woman of colour to receive that honour.
Now she visits ALICE with her forthcoming album "Caribenya" (released July). Here lush orchestrations, ambient soundscapes, pop sensibility and pulsing Caribbean rhythms meet – an epic fusion of Colombian and Afro-Latin American traditions, electronic impulses and grand classical arrangements. Expect a beautiful and empowering evening with an artist at the peak of her career.
