In the second installment of the (af)Magt series, an initiative of the Foreign Policy Society U35, KU Geopolitics, and the University Library, Beijing's latest five-year plan and its far-reaching consequences are explored.
Focusing on technological self-sufficiency, new quality productivity forces, and the continued tension between the USA and China, important perspectives are presented on how this plan affects both China's domestic and foreign policy. The session also reveals how Denmark and Europe should navigate their relationship with China – simultaneously a trading partner, competitor, and systemic rival.
An in-depth panel of Sinologists and China experts brings deep insight into party congresses, plenary meetings, and the real power struggles behind the scenes in Beijing. Panel participants include Bo Ærenlund Sørensen (lecturer in Chinese Studies, University of Copenhagen), Tabita Rosendahl (Ph.D. student, Lund University, specializing in the Belt and Road Initiative), and Amalie Sofie Niegel (Master's student, Chinese Studies, University of Copenhagen, and contributor to the newsletter Sinolytica). The moderator is Mads Vesterager Nielsen, Sinologist and former director of the Danish Chamber of Commerce in Beijing.
