The Empress is puppet theatre for adults – a contemporary animation performance based on Selma Lagerlöf's classic novel The Emperor of Portugalia. Livingstones Kabinet explores themes of paternal love and madness through live music and visually fantastic stagecraft, as four male actors on stage navigate fluidly between realistic and fantastical universes.
Directed by Nina Kareis with scenography by Marie Rosendal Chemnitz and Johan Kølkjær, an intimate theatrical experience that takes the novel's psychological depth seriously without becoming heavy. A production for those seeking something different and artistically daring.
- Duration: 65 minutes without intermission
- Performers: Troels Kortegaard Ullerup, Pete Livingstone, Bo Carlsson
- Director: Nina Kareis
- Scenography: Marie Rosendal Chemnitz, Johan Kølkjær
