Arbejdersangbogen celebrates its 100th anniversary with a special evening dedicated to the songbook's classic numbers. Through an hour of enlightening journey with song, history and personal stories, Josefine Albris and historian Mikkel Skovgaard explore how the 20 immortal songs – including "The Sun Is So Red, Mother", "When Winter Flows Into the Ditch and Grave" and "Jens the Roadman" – became the cornerstones of a songbook designed to unite the labour movement.
The meeting between culture and politics is central: In 1926, the Workers' Educational Association chose to prioritize national folk songs over more rebellious numbers, in line with Social Democracy's vision of making Danish cultural heritage accessible to all people. Jeppe Aakjær stood behind the songbook's most significant contributions. Experience how these songs have carried hope, struggle and solidarity through generations.
