An evening on the moral philosophy of forgiveness. Thomas Brudholm, Ph.D. in philosophy and lecturer at Copenhagen University, explores why people who refuse forgiveness do not necessarily act immorally. He argues that anger can be justified when it affirms a wrong and places responsibility on those who caused the harm. Refusal to forgive can also be a way to protect oneself or preserve self-respect.
Through the research project 'Eftertanker', philosophical questions are combined with real experiences from Danish victims and bereaved. The evening features a conversation between Brudholm and editor Mette Holbæk, exploring key questions: What happens when we forgive? What do we refuse? When can forgiveness be wrong? Why is it so difficult to accept that others do not wish to forgive?
Program: Doors open at 17.00 with wine or water. Conversation on stage approximately 45 minutes from 17.30, followed by audience questions. The library closes at 19.00. The conversation will be recorded and published as a podcast on 'Verden forsøgt forklaret' the following week.
