Discover one of Copenhagen's most distinctive university areas on a walking tour exploring architecture, history, and campus life over more than 100 years. From cutting-edge health science facilities to iconic 1970s brutalism.
The tour starts at the Mærsk Tower, where you will see the building's open foyer and new facilities for health research. From there, we enter the classic Panum complex to understand the uncompromising brutalist architecture—concrete surfaces, heavy proportions, and raw materials that may seem forbidding at first, but hide deep design philosophy.
Through University Park, we visit several prominent buildings including the University Library, the H.C. Ørsted Building, and the brand-new Niels Bohr Building. Along the way, the guide explains the campus plan with freestanding faculty buildings and green spaces, as well as the vibrant student life.
The tour concludes with the area's earlier history—before the university arrived, it was misty natural landscape with marshes, fields, and bleaching grounds outside Copenhagen's old ramparts, later dominated by Blegdams Hospital.
