aja monet US

Grammy-nominated American poet and word musician aja monet unites spiritual jazz, soul and spoken word in a unique artistic expression. With vulnerable musicality and a rare ability to weave words fluidly in and out of music, she creates a burning contemporary dialogue between traditional jazz and political lyricism.

aja monet, born and raised in Brooklyn as the daughter of Cuban and Jamaican parents, won the title of Grand Slam Champion at the iconic Nuyorican Poets Café in New York at age 19 – the youngest ever. With her Grammy-nominated album "when the poems do what they do" (2023), she established herself as a central voice in the meeting of jazz and political lyricism. On her latest album "the color of rain", she explores a more experimental universe where jazz, soul, hiphop and R&B are woven together into a surrealist soundscape between intimacy and social critique.
