Miles Davis would have turned 100 in 2026, and this concert celebrates the jazz legend's legacy with a broad selection of his most significant works. The Tivoli Big Band under the direction of Peter Jensen presents a classical jazz repertoire featuring seminal albums such as Kind of Blue and Sketches of Spain as well as Davis' collaborative works with orchestrator Gil Evans. Throughout the concert, the orchestra shifts between intimate small ensembles and the full 19-piece ensemble to showcase the breadth of Davis' musical expression.
This special evening features American trumpeter Randy Brecker, one of modern jazz's most significant figures. Over five decades, Brecker has been a central force in both jazz and fusion circles through his work with Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers, the Horace Silver Quintet, and especially the Brecker Brothers. With seven Grammy Awards and more than twenty nominations to his name, Brecker ranks among history's most honored musicians. Miles Davis was among his most important childhood influences—particularly Davis' tone, timing, and musical courage to seek new directions deeply shaped Brecker's own artistic development.
Brecker and conductor Peter Jensen have previously worked together on a Grammy-nominated recording with the DR Big Band. Tonight they continue their collaboration at Tivoli, joining forces with the big band to explore Davis' musical world through a concert that both honors the past and brings classical jazz into contemporary vitality.
