Discover the Royal Opera House from a completely new perspective with a guided tour through one of the world's most advanced theatres. You begin in the grand foyer, where Olafur Eliasson's floating light sculptures welcome you, before entering the maple wood-clad hall featuring 2,500 lights and a ceiling covered with 24-karat gold leaf. From there, the tour takes you behind the scenes through the enormous backstage area with six stage spaces, massive concrete walls, and professional rehearsal rooms.
Along the way, you'll hear fascinating stories about the opera house, its unique features, and artistic environment – including why you absolutely must never whistle here. The tour concludes at the Takkelloftet, the opera house's intimate secondary stage. The entire experience lasts 75 minutes and is conducted on artistic terms, meaning the guide may adjust the route if rehearsals or technical work are underway. You're welcome to take photographs for personal use.
